Disability Awareness Program

Disability Awareness Program is offered to youth services, community and youth organisations, youth groups, employers and Primary, Secondary Schools and Third Level Institutes with the aims to:

  • To pave the way in creating a greater community presence of people with a disability in local community services.

  • Promote inclusion through better understanding of disability amongst young people, volunteers and staff in the all sector.

  • To encourage employers, trainers and service providers to take the appropriate action to remove disabling barriers.

  • To encourage employers to include more people with disabilities in the work force.

The program encourages interactive participation through discussion, worksheets, questions and answers, debates, role-plays and exercises, as well as the use of video and guest speakers.

The content of a training session is geared to suit the needs / interests of the participating group.

The program will differ depending on length of time allocated, what the group are hoping to gain from the presentation and the number of participants.

It can bring a user-focused perspective to the work of your organisation and help you meet the requirements of disability legislation.

Awareness in disability issues for all staff, not only front line staff, is an essential step in improving service provision.

The program can enable staff at all levels to realise the proactive role they can play in the development of an organisation which is inclusive of people with disabilities.
